Due to the Ranger's MASSIVE consumption of MP, he can only pull off a few abilities, which sucks. He also can't take much damage, which also sucks. But, with the perfect set up, he can become a force to be reckoned with. It might seem like a bad idea to have the Secondary Job be Merchant, but hear me out! The Merchant has something (besides White Knight) that can quite literally save the Ranger if that MP recovery ability isn't helping you; Pharmacy. Pharmacy allows the user to buy an item and use it on a target. So you could buy an Ether or something like that for even quicker MP recovery. Take note that this means you can even buy attack items! So, to have a turn with the most progress, here is the recommended turn:

But having Merchant as a Secondary Job means that you have access to moves that DON'T require MP, which means that if you feel like getting your Merchant on, try this:
